Asas isu yang di perjuangkan MASTI adalah KEBAJIKAN PEGAWAI Universiti seperti berikut :</span></span><br />

<li><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Sistem perkhidmatan yang memberikan ruang kenaikan pangkat tanpa sekatan dan halangan yang mana kenaikan pangkat sekarang bergantung kepada kekosongan jawatan yang hanya berlaku jika penyandang BERHENTI, MENINGGAL DUNIA atau hanya bila MENDAPAT WARAN BARU DARI JPA. - Senario sekarang RAMAI PEGAWAI yang memiliki prestasi baik tidak dapat naik pangkat atas alasan tiada position atau kekosongan hingga ada yang kekal statik dengan jawatan 41 atau 44 bertahun lamanya hingga ada kes hingga mencapai 15 tahun.</span></span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Sistem perkhidmatan yang menggabungkan (hybrid) ciri Performance Base dan Time Base dalam kenaikan pangkat yang akhirnya dapat menjamin MENJAGA KEBAJIKAN dan MASA DEPAN pegawai di universiti menerusi laluan karier yang DIJAMIN.</span></span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Mengguna pakai model KUBAH dalam memposisikan perjawatan berbanding sistem PIRAMID sekarang ini.</span></span></li>

It makes them work as if their lives depend on it (which, in many cases, is true).
Thomas Friedman talked about this in his book The World is Flat. He called it coefficient of flatness: the fewer natural resources a country or company has, the more it will dig inside itself for innovations in order to survive. It’s the sense of urgency that makes them survive, and the same principle applies to individuals.</span></span></pre>

World War II left Japan devastated. The crisis gave them a strong sense of urgency to work hard and rise. In 1980s, not only they did rise, they even scared many other countries with their rapid economic growth.
In the book The Road Ahead, Bill
Gates said that a secret to Microsoft success is they always think of themselves to be in the losing side, and this makes them strive to be number one everyday. This attitude creates a sense of urgency which makes them work hard to survive in the highly competitive environment of IT industry.
Many students suddenly get a “boost in productivity” a few days before their assignments are due. Again, a sense of urgency is at play.</span></span></pre>
<pre style="margin-top: 0px; white-space: pre-wrap; word-wrap: break-word;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><a name='more'></a>As you can see, sense of urgency is like magic. A touch of it can transform a person, a company, or a country to be highly productive.</span></span>

The enemy, then, is comfort.
Once someone is trapped in the comfort zone, he loses the sense of urgency. There is no reason for him to work hard and excel. He falls prey to the trap of mediocrity.
Perhaps this is the reason why many family businesses can’t succeed beyond the third or fourth generation. The younger generations are already in the comfort zone; they have
lost the sense of urgency owned by the first generations. This also explains why many people do not grow, or grow only slowly, in their life.
So, if there is a lesson we can learn, that will be this: to be highly productive, we should introduce a sense of urgency into our lives.
Here are some tips to do that:
1. Set a challenging goal with a deadline
A challenging goal creates a sense of urgency that inspires us to work harder to achieve it. A good example is John F. Kennedy’s goal of landing people on the moon before the end of the decade. The goal was challenging, and it had a clear deadline. That goal inspired a whole generation of scientist to emerge and boost the productivity of the space program to a whole new level.
You can set a challenging goal for yourself. Maybe you want to reach a certain level of income or write a book. Whatever it is, your goal should be specific so that you know for sure whether or not you have
accomplished it. Besides, your goal should have a clear deadline.
There is one thing to note: if your goal is challenging, you should give yourself enough time to achieve it. The goal of landing man on the moon was set in 1961 and achieved in 1969 – an eight-year time span. Without giving yourself enough time, your subconscious mind will reject your goal as impossible and you will only see failure.</span></span></pre>

2. Set a challenging deadline for a goal
In the previous tip, the goal is challenging, but the deadline is normal (that is, there is enough time for you to achieve the goal). You can also do it the other way: the goal is normal, but the deadline is challenging. Since we usually deal with normal goals in our daily life, this trick can be used on many occasions.
Suppose you have to write an article. That’s a normal goal – there’s nothing too big or challenging about it. But you can create a sense of urgency by setting a challenging
deadline. This way you will be motivated to work harder and be more productive.
3. Set a minimum time to work on something
Deadlines give you a sense of urgency by setting a maximum amount of time to finish something. But sometimes it’s difficult to even get started. The task feels uncomfortable and we try to avoid it.
In such case, we can create a sense of urgency in a different way: by setting a minimum amount of time to work on it. Before the time is up, you may not stop working. This way, there is pressure to keep yourself going until you meet the minimum time limit, and you trick yourself to start working on an uncomfortable task.
4. Make yourself accountable
Another way to give yourself a sense of urgency is by telling other people about your goal. By letting them know about your goal, you will feel the pressure to achieve it and meet their expectations. This is one reason why I like to share my goals and visions with
the people I meet. They keep me stay motivated and on track.</span></span>

If there is no such host, the guests then focus on not looking as lonely and lost as they really feel. “Research by Jack Zenger and Joseph Folkman that comprised a study they
did of 7,280 leaders in 2011 looked at leaders that were employed in a
variety of positions – from very senior management to individual

For some strange reasons, in many corporations, volunteerism and CSR get
branded together and are usually thrown to HR leaders to manage. Most
business leaders view it as an activity that organisations need to
occasionally dabble in. And for HR, there are usually more pressing
issues like ensuring employee productivity, retention, and enabling
their talent to grow and develop new skills and abilities. Volunteerism
is thus thrust to the backburner as a nice to-do. What most leaders fail
to understand is that volunteerism enables HR to achieve all their
goals. Additionally, it provides a vehicle for the business to reach a
lot of its strategic goals. And it is free.</span>

You want to live longer?<br /><br />
We know volunteering is good for your soul. But do you know that
volunteering drives up productivity in organisations? Study after study
show that volunteers actually live longer and have lower rates of
disease than their peers who don't volunteer, no matter what age.
</span><span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
Research from both the Mayo Clinic and the University of California
conclude that there are significant health benefits to volunteering,
including lower mortality rates. Another study concluded that retirees
over 65 who volunteered had less than half the risk of dying compared to
their non-volunteering peers. “We found that volunteering remains a
powerful predictor of decreased mortality among retirees, even after
extensive adjustment for possible confounding factors,” wrote the
study's authors. “Yes, volunteers live longer”, chimes Dr Gary Kennedy,
who was one of the doctors who led another study in San Francisco.
</span><span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
In yet another study, people with chronic pain who volunteered as peer
counsellors found that theirheart diseases, disability, chronic pain and
feelings of depression all lessened from volunteering.
</span><span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
A Duke University study found that individuals who volunteered after
experiencing heart attacks reported reductions in despair and depression
two factors that that have been linked to mortality in post-coronary
artery disease patients.
</span><span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
Imagine the implications for HR from ensuring volunteerism is a key
agenda in your organisation: lower medical bills, fitter employees, more
engaged workforce, people happier and more productive and you would
have employees that lived very long and happy lives.

Combating depression
</span><span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
In fact, the most common workplace issue is stress and depression. And what is a possible cure? You guessed right volunteerism!
</span><span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
Volunteering combats depression. When we volunteer, our bodies produce
oxytocin, which counters stress hormones associated with depression,
such as cortisol and epinephrine.
</span><span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
A key risk factor for depression is social isolation. Volunteering keeps
you in regular contact with others and enables you to develop a firm
support system, protecting you against stress and depression in
challenging times.
</span><span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
“People who are socially engaged will have a better quality of life and better survival,” reinforces Dr Gary Kennedy.
</span><span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
In fact, employees who volunteer have higher self-confidence levels than
those who don't. Volunteering provides a healthy boost to your
self-esteem and life contentment. Doing good for others and the
community provides a natural sense of accomplishment and purpose. It
also gives you a sense of pride and identity.
</span><span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
And the better you feel about yourself, the more likely you are to have a
positive view of your life and perform much better at work and at
complicated tasks.

But the most important benefit that volunteerism brings to organisations is that it is a proven way to develop leaders.

Leaders are developed by experiences. A number of years ago, I led the
volunteer organisation at General Electric (GE) and observed many
careers developed through volunteerism. One such case was Sheela
Chandran, who rose from an administrative assistant to a regional
leader. Even as a secretary, Sheela got involved in organising volunteer
activities for everyone at the office. She learned to influence people
to support her causes and learned to mobilise groups of people.<br /><br />
At volunteer events, she would project manage, lead and give
instructions to all of us to follow. She learned numerous leadership
skills (for free!) by volunteering and leading volunteering efforts.
</span><span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
Her developing ability as a leader was noticed and she was promoted to more senior roles in the organisation.
</span><span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
Volunteering can also help you build upon skills you already have and
use them to further your career. Just like Sheela, who improved her
public speaking, communication, marketing and influencing skills, HR
leaders should leverage volunteerism as a great leadership development
tool. And in many cases, especially for young people, there are not many
leadership roles available in your workplace to practice leadership.
Volunteering provides your young people opportunity to practice
leadership.

Another interesting research fact: 90% of successful corporate leaders
were involved in some form of community work whilst they were young,
enabling them to practice leadership at an early age. Yet many of these
leaders have forgotten that this same means of their development should
now be leveraged for their employee's development.

So, why do organisations not reap the benefits of volunteerism in a
bigger way? Part of the issue is the perception that volunteering
requires heaps of time.
</span><span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
But for you to live longer and benefit from the great side effects of
volunteerism, research shows that you would only need to invest about
100 volunteer hours a year.</span>

Volunteering allows you and your organisation to connect to your
community and make it a better place. There is much power in businesses
engaging their workforce to volunteer on a regular basis.

Research suggests another advantage for self-sacrificing volunteers -
the ability to get dates. Surprisingly, women rate such altruism high on
their list of desirable traits in a mate.

Motivating people</span>

Recently, I attended a senior manager’s strategy session in Hong Kong.
The topic “Motivating Our Staff” was on the agenda as it related to
their South-east Asian and Asian sales, administrative and operational
teams.</span>
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
Having been a part of these types of sessions on countless occasions as a
speaker, trainer and workshop leader, I found the discussion
interesting to listen to and to learn what these senior managers were
expecting of their employees and channel partners.</span>
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
It wasn’t long before someone asked me if I had some ideas or examples
to share that would bring some clarity and new momentum to the
discussion around “work and motivation”.</span>
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
With this group of senior managers over 35 years of age, I shared
examples from recent history they could easily relate to. Each example
illustrates moments of “work peak performance”.</span></div>

The 1995 Hollywood blockbuster movie Apollo 13 was nominated for nine
Academy Awards and won two. The central story revolves around the United
States’ space programme and its third manned lunar mission to the moon
in 1970.</span>
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
The movie was about the “peak performance” story of real-life teams and individuals involved with the Apollo 13 mission.</span>
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
Historically called a “successful failure”, the crisis began when an
explosion in one of the oxygen tanks crippled the spaceship and put paid
to the moon landing. Mission Control in Houston had the extremely
challenging task of successfully returning astronauts Jim Lovell, Fred
Hayes and Jack Swigert back to earth.</span>
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
I reminded the managers that this was played out in front of a
television viewing audience estimated at 1.6 billion people worldwide in
April 1970.</span>
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
The leaders, managers and individuals at every level of the mission were
under massive stress with limited resources. With time ticking away,
they did the possible under impossible conditions.</span>
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
The Apollo 13 mission still stands out as one of the most viewed events
in television history and with many noted examples of personal and team
peak performances.</span>

The next example I shared was the individual performance of Australian
Kieran Perkins who was swimming for his second gold medal in the
gruelling 1,500m swim final at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta,
Georgia.</span>
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
Perkins was the gold medallist in the 1,500m race at the 1992 Barcelona
Olympic Games, setting a new standard in his sport with another
world-record performance. The difference in the Atlanta Games was that
he went into the final race as the eighth-slowest qualifier, having been
sick with the flu days before hand.</span>
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
What happened in the final race has become one of the greatest finishes
of all time. Not only did Kieran stand out and win his second Olympic
distance 1,500m final race, he set a new record and standard.</span>
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
He did what he had been training to do “at work” at 4.30am every day for
half his life — swimming practice. In doing so, he gained glory for his
country by being at peak performance rate for nearly 15 minutes to
become the 1996 Olympic gold medal champion and giving one of the
greatest swim performances in history.</span></div>

The last example I shared with the senior managers on how to motivate a
team for peak performance was known by all the managers, as they nodded
in agreement.</span>

It was the attributes of unselfish leadership and personal contributions
of the 33 miners who were rescued after two months of being trapped
underground near Santiago, Chile, in South America.</span>
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
In circumstances that would crush the hopes of most people, 33
colleagues who had known one another for many years, stuck together to
become national heroes.</span>
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
An old South African saying is: “To go a short distance, go alone; to go a long distance, go together.”</span>

While peak performances are normally an individual pursuit, under the
right circumstances, top performances can lift the spirits of companies,

Let us examine the types of difficult customers and learn tactics that
are most effective for diffusing their negative emotions and undesirable
behaviour.

1 The hostile-aggressive customer
</span><span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
The most intimidating type of customer to deal with is the one who yells or screams at service employees.

Hostile-aggressive customers take their disappointment and frustration out on others.
</span><span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
They seem unable to manage their anger internally and use other people as “human punching bags”.

They usually stick to verbal assaults. In their anger,
hostile-aggressive customers often fail to listen and may make threats

Dealing with them is emotionally and physically draining.

But increasingly, after letting off steam, hostile-aggressive customers
often calm down and even feel guilty or embarrassed about their
behaviour.

Key handling strategies:
</span><span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
·Do not take their anger personally. Remaining calm will help de-escalate the conflict.
</span><span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
·Keep your voice and gestures neutral. If you let yourself become angry
or emotional, that will prolong the situation. Your calmness can help
defuse the customer’s anger.
</span><span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
·Sometimes, hostile-aggressive customers just want to blow off steam. It
helps if you listen actively to them. Ask open-ended questions (the
kind that do not allow the customer to just answer “yes” or “no”) to
help them give you the details.
</span><span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
·Focus on facts, not emotions. Work to uncover the facts of the situation and take notes.
</span><span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
·Let them know you want to solve their issues promptly and accurately, and ask for their cooperation.

2 The insistent customer
</span><span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
Insistent customers know just enough to think they know it all.
</span><span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
They sound authoritative but often have little real experience with the topic at hand.
</span><span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
They may use limited experience or one specific incident from which to generalise.
</span><span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
They often have strong opinions and do not hesitate to challenge your credibility or facts.
</span><span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
Your goal with such customers is to help them move forward into problem
resolution rather than to continue to spin the same information over and
over again.

Key handling strategies:
</span><span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
·Do not take their scepticism personally. Your job is to move the
conversation forward towards an effective resolution of their concerns.
</span><span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
·Stay focused on the specific problem and their desired outcome.
</span><span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
·Probe for their deeper objectives. Ask them to play out an ideal
situation in their mind. Once you know their objective, you can develop
specific answers to their concerns.

·Stick to facts and stay objective.
</span><span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
3 The negative customer
</span><span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
This customer is pessimistic and seems to be dissatisfied with everything.
</span><span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
In fact, he often sees himself as a victim of circumstances. He will shoot down every suggestion you make.
</span><span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
Do not let his negativity get you down. Stay objective and do not take his attitude personally.
</span><span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />
Although you cannot fix his world view, you can overcome his objections.
</span><span style="font-size: small;"><br /><br />

·Use open-ended questions to pin down their objections or concerns.

·Practise active listening skills and paraphrasing.

Dealing with difficult customers is a continuing challenge in any business setting. It can be emotionally draining.

Staying neutral and focusing on a positive outcome can help reduce the
frustration for service employees who need to work effectively with
difficult customers.

Developing additional tools and techniques for managing difficult
customer behaviour will pay off with increased customer and employee

example, a person is suspected of stealing from the office cash box, he
can be cleverly questioned so that he will exhibit the necessary

Should he be guilty of stealing from the cash box, he is likely to be
defensive, with a tendency to scramble for an alibi. If he is innocent,
he tends to be offended, and may be aggressive when questioned.

Facial expressions often reveal the true emotions of a person. A smile
is often taken as a happy expression, but it may not necessarily be so.

A smile with wrinkle lines around the eyes is a sign that the person is
genuinely happy. A smile with raised eyebrows shows he may be trying to
conceal surprise. A smile with squinted eyes and narrowed eyebrows shows
he is concealing disgust. A smile with V-shaped eyebrows shows that he
is happy for selfish reasons.

So you should not be too quick to interpret a smile as a sign of

back the programme without the sound. You are now forced to make sense
of what the emotions are, simply by observing the facial expressions and
body gestures.

smile genuine or is the person smiling just to be polite? Is he

<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Keseluruhan perlawanan dilihat seimbang apabila kedua-dua pasukan dilihat saling berbalas serangan dengan "striker" kedua-dua pasukan acap kali melakukan percubaan ke arah pintu gol lawan. Benteng Pragmatis FC dilihat begitu kukuh dengan dikemudi oleh kapten pasukan sdr. Marwan hingga banyak sekali kesalahan "offside" dilakukan penyerang Kelab Veteran USIM.</span></span><br />

<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Akhirnya pada separuh masa pertama satu serangan balas pantas dari Veteran USIM telah membuahkan hasil apabila Tuan Haizuan (Pendaftar USIM) melakukan larian pantas melepasi perangkap "offside" seterusnya melakukan sepakan lencong yang begitu mengelirukan dari luar petak penalti untuk jaringan pembukaan oleh Kelab Veteran USIM.</span></span><br />

<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Sebaik sahaja separuh masa kedua Pragmatis FC segera mendominasi perlawanan. Umpama harimau malaya yang telah dilukai, Pragmatis FC melakukan amukan dengan melakukan jaringan 3 jaringan pantas dalam tempoh 15 minit separuh masa kedua. Namun begitu permainan dicemari insiden kecederaan pemain pertahanan Pragmatis FC yang tercedera ketika mengekang asakan lawan.</span></span><br />

Pembinaan <span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">Pusat Jagaan Anak dan Tadika</span> - sebagai jaminan keselamatan & pendidikan<br />viii. Penumpuan terhadap <span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">pembangunan akademik </span>bagi melahirkan graduan berkualiti<br />ix. Peningkatan <span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">peluang </span>kepada kakitangan pentadbiran untuk <span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">melanjutkan pelajaran</span><br />x. Menyokong usaha ke arah <span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">meningkatkan kemahiran dan kompetensi </span>kakitangan serta penekanan untuk kesemua kakitangan <span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">menguasai sekurang-kurangnya 2 bahasa</span>.<br /><br />4. Pihak universiti akan meningkatkan perhatian dan <span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">fokus berkaitan soal kebajikan kakitangan </span>keseluruhannya bagi meningkatkan aspek kepuasan bekerja di USIM.<br /><br />5. P<span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">endekatan yang berhemah dan mesra</span> mestilah diamalkan dalam perhubungan di setiap peringkat sama ada di peringkat atasan dan bawahan juga di antara Jabatan di USIM.<br /><br />6. <span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">Pihak pengurusan akan bersikap lebih terbuka dan bersedia untuk menerima pandangan dan cadangan</span> dengan menghayati prinsip dari pihak atasan ke bawah tidak semuanya betul dan dari pihak bawahan ke atas tidak semuanya salah.<br /><br />7. <span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">Kakitangan akademik/penyarah muda dan baru kembali harus mempertingkatkan penguasaan berkaitan aspek pembangunan akademik</span>. Universiti tidak selamanya mampu bergantung harap dengan pensyarah "lama" dan </span><span style="font-family:arial;font-size:130%;">penyarah muda dan baru kembali haruslah segera belajar dan mengambil ilmu serta pengalaman mereka.<br /><br />8. Profesor yang telah "lama" berkhidmat diharapkan dapat memberi bimbingan, panduan dan tunjuk ajar kepada </span><span style="font-family:arial;font-size:130%;"><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">penyarah muda dan yang baru kembali khususnya dalam menghayati kehendak, aspirasi dan matlamat Pengurusan USIM</span>.</span><br /><span style="font-family:arial;font-size:130%;"><br />9. P<span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">enjanaan pendapatan untuk universiti </span>akan turut menjadi agenda utama memandangkan pada tahun 2015 universiti perlu menjana sekitar 20%-30% untuk menampung kos keseluruhan universiti. Kita telah melaksanakan penjimatan namun kaedah ini tidak akan selamanya bertahan kerana kita perlu menjana pendapatan untuk universiti secara sendiri.<br /><br />10. Fokus juga harus diberikan dalam <span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">aspek pembangunan modal insan, pembangunan akademik dan aktiviti pembangunan mahasiswa/pelajar</span> yang mana ketiga-tiga perkara ini <span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">harus diambil berat tanpa kompromi</span> termasuk soal halangan dalam bajet yang diperlukan.<br /><br />11. Semua pihak harus menyedari bahawa untuk <span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">menjayakan Petunjuk Prestasi Utama (KPI) Universiti semua pihak haruslah memberikan usaha yang terbaik</span>. Kepentingan </span><span style="font-family:arial;font-size:130%;">Petunjuk Prestasi Utama (KPI) boleh dilihat dengan a</span><span style="font-family:arial;font-size:130%;">malan Korporat melihat </span><span style="font-family:arial;font-size:130%;">Petunjuk Prestasi Utama (KPI) sebagai indikator utama pemberian ganjaran kepada kakitangan meraka. Jika kita dapat memberikan yang terbaik dan mendapat pencapaian </span><span style="font-family:arial;font-size:130%;">Petunjuk Prestasi Utama (KPI) yang terbaik pastinya akan dibalas dengan sesuatu yang terbaik juga.</span><br /><span style="font-family:arial;font-size:130%;"><br />12. Marilah kita semua bersama-sama <span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">mencipta satu langkah kehadapan yang lebih bermakna</span> iaitu satu langkah yang akan dapat membawa USIM dengan lebih baik lagi untuk mara kehadapan.<br /><br />13.
